My interest in the skin and its illnesses manifested early. During my studies, I completed research stays abroad, for example at the dermatological university hospital of the University of California, San Francisco. During my medical studies at the University of Vienna I already worked scientifically, especially in the field of histology and ultrastructural research (electron microscopy).
My doctorate in medicine was granted in 1996. After completing my regular military service at the Heeresspital in Vienna, I relocated to Wels in 1997 to work as a regular doctor at the Cardiology and Intensive Care Unit of the Charitable Sisters Hospital.
In 1998, I became a research associate at the University Department of Dermatology at the University of Vienna. In 2000, I was appointed a resident physician and started my residency at the University Department of Dermatology, University of Vienna (headed by Prof. Klaus Wolff). At the same time, I started my training in dermatopathology. In 2005, I successfully passed the Austrian Specialist Examination for Skin and Venereal Diseases.
In 2007, I moved to Boston for a fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. In the same year, I completed my habilitation for Dermatology and Venereology.
Immediately after my return to Vienna, I was appointed Senior Physician at the Department of Dermatology at the Medical University of Vienna, AKH Vienna. From that point on I completed numerous clinical tasks in addition to my scientific work.
